Food is fundamental to human existence. As a society, our health problems continue to increase. Diseases once believed abolished are re-appearing, rare ones are becoming more common, and many of our medical drugs are losing their effectiveness. While these health problems and deaths will be attributed to any number of diseases, the root cause is more often found in our modern diet.  Deficient in nutrition and life energy, laced with toxins, and aided by cigarette and alcohol consumption, modern nutrition underlies many of the diseases of modern civilization.

While many people are beginning to realize the importance of staying physically active through sports and exercise, most continue to neglect a vital aspect of a healthy lifestyle – nutrition. Without the proper fuel, the body cannot perform at its best and will often begin to break down, even when a person is exercising daily. Eventually, the body will give way under exhaustion or inflammation and will not function properly. Digestive disturbances and a host of other disorders or diseases will often prevent a person from continuing in a habitual exercise program because of their poor dietary measures. Seeking out the proper nutrition for health and fitness is just as important as exercising daily for one’s overall long-term health and wellness.

What Is Considered Good Nutrition?

The most solid nutrition comes from “whole un-processed foods.” Eating whole foods means that you do not consume processed or packaged foods on a regular basis. You buy items such as chicken breast, salad, and eggs, not prefabricated or condensed versions of these items. Preparing these foods at home is the best way to gain good nutrition for health and fitness sports.

Eating the right types of foods in the right portions is also important. Protein is an important component of a healthy diet, as it forms the building block of your body. Fitness and health professionals eat plenty of healthy, lean and clean protein foods such as fish, chicken, eggs, and red meat. Natural protein powders are also available made from a variety of sources such as whey, egg whites, pea, soy and hemp seed. Protein helps keep the body satiated and feeling fuller for longer periods of time. Carbohydrate foods are also important in nutrition for health and fitness sports, as they provide the body with energy. Simple carbohydrates include fruits such as bananas and apples. Complex carbohydrates, such as potatoes and whole grain, help provide more stability for glucose levels and are helpful when fitness training. No matter what type of exercises are chosen for one’s lifestyle, providing the body with healthy foods is a major area in life that should not be overlooked.
